The Emotions of the Creative Process: Why Is It So Hard to Finish Things?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Writing, like any act of creation, is an emotional process. Characters have emotions. Poems are conduits for feelings. Creative nonfiction is a minefield. But the process itself also follows an emotional arc--and it sometimes gets blocked. This session outlines the emotional journey for creative work, from the excitement of the initial idea to the doubt that comes as we start to create. Learn how to persist, how to forgive yourself, and how to learn to love the thing that is ultimately created. Participants will leave with their own map of the emotions of their creative process, suggestions about what to do when they get stuck, and a path forward to finish their work-in-progress.
